Somersby Cider: Cider Tasting No#13

Well dropped into the closest Dan Murphies for a cider top up and found a 12 pack of cans of Somersby Cider, as their in cans tends to be cheaper than bottles, never tried this cider so agh well worth a punt.

Finally its friday night n time to crack a can and must say Im pleasantly surprised almighty fine drop indeedy. A very fruity taste, of fresh apples, simpler to +47 but not as sweet, sits nicely on the pallet and at 4.5 % a nice little kick.

So I can highly reccomed

Cider tasting No#11

Well Mr Henry Weston gets a run

Henry Weston cider

Well must say after 3 Bottles of Green Goblin this is very very different, a very apple like rase, a touch sweet and a lot stronger at 8.2%. It states on the bottle a 2011 Vintage and another oak aged, must say I do like the flavour oak aged cider produces. It does state a medium dry however I would say medium def but a touch sweet for me, very light in the glass.

Maybe one for a warm day with a seafood salad

My Spidey senses are tingling

http://farm9.staticflickr.com/8528/8477197487_ae08150b72.jpg

No Spiderman here thank goodness as a savour an oaken drop from the Green Goblin. At 6% it certainly don't feel it, well so far, and a nice dry yet crisp cider, not like Old Rosie this has a pleasant cascade of bubbles, it even has an oaken look about it.

Certainly travels well on the pallet so much so I will definitely have to finish the other two bottles in the fridge n purchase some more.

Cheers all

Ciders not what is seems in Oz

A great article on Australian Cider and the revival it is experiencing in Australia. The fact a lot of Ciders are using concentrates and toped up with 50% water. One thing it did not mention is Pear Cider may only be 5% pear 9could be more but cannot remember)

A whole lotta Old Rosie

Cider Tasting No#9

Well surprise surprise its the Crush from last Sunday and after the dry of old Rosie its not to bad at all, fresh sparky but not to sweet..

Cider tasting No#8

A whole lotta OLD ROSIE!

A whole lotta Old Rosie

As the back of the label states is is light crispy and dry with a light sparkly/bubble. And I tell you what an enjoyable drop it is. One must slowly disturb the sediment to distribute before drinking as it is a cloudy drop, yup looks like cats piss but don't taste like it, not that Ive ever drank cats piss of course.

At 7.3% has a nice heady kick which could land eye in a tad of trouble if drunk to fast, but this is a drop to savour and enjoy.

Cider tasting No#7

Mixed berry cider

Ah the Monteiths Crushed Berry I bought for my other half of which I consumed a taster… To say I was surprised that it wasn't as fruity as the Rekorderlig, nor as cordial like, which is a good thing, it still held an apple like quality to it.. sat nicely on drinking it, well chilled it was quite pleasant. If you like a Berry flavour I would recommend this one, and the good part more than one wouldn't be too sickly either.

Cheers

Cider in a can

WTF seriously, CIDER IN A CAN!!! Well I must say I was pleasantly surprised, this cider was not to tart, not too sweet, actually pretty close to being just right, saying this I must say I enjoyed the 4 cans that can in the pack… Would a be great thirst quencher on  shot day, or just a lazy brew on an arvo… Can say I highly recommend this one… get it from your local Dans

Cider tasting No#5

Rochdale

Rochdale cider, tasted in Lakes Entrance, Victoria, Australia overlooking the sea and enjoin g a greta meal. This drop was recommended by the waitress when asked whats that cider like, she said she drinks it all the time. Well it did not disappoint, a nice full apple flavour from our NZ neighbours.

A mix between dry n a touch of sweet, and certainly went down well. Also gave a nice buzz even only 4%.

Would recommend these when having a few to kick back with

Cheers

Cider tasting No#4

Apple blackcurrant

Ahh Rekorderlig, the "Premium" Apple and Blackcurrant flavour, where do I start, well it is extremely tasty and nice sweet flavoured, may be to sweet for some people, I found it just right, however it lacked punch, especially after the Cheeky Rascals 8%, this  a mild 4% and it was noticeable , gave it a feeling of drinking cordial.

Look it would be refreshing after a hot day at work or a light accompaniment to a meal, but for a nice arvo session I think I would be left bloated and unbuzzed.

The decision is yours in the end.

Enjoy

Cider tasting No#3

Pink lady

Well here is review number 3. All I can saw is this one was well worth waiting for, Passionfruit infused with Pink Lady apples. This Cheeky Rascal cider hits the spot, not to sweet, just enough apple tartness and the divine flavour of a Pink Lady apple and the passionfruit enhances the flavour and definitely does not overwhelm, I may add I love the Pink Lady apples when they are in season.

This is one drink that is refreshing on a warm day, actually anyway…. doe sit show I bloody enjoyed this one.

Yup highly recommend :)

Cider tasting No#2

Apple Honey

Well this is tasting two from Cheeky Rascal and will be honest I tried this first as I had a preconceived idea on how this would taste being Apple Honey flavour. I wasn't far off the mark as honey can be quite sweet n sickly, who remembers those cough medicines as a kid laced with honey? Well it was nowhere near that bad yet it did not disappoint, I would say this would be a more acquired taste and possibly a more winter drink than a summer refresher. The label states using a local Australian honey infused in the fermenting of the cider gave this a nicer taste than those drinks where honey is possible added later.

This cider is 9% alcohol and yep if drunk quickly gives a nice big buzz and these bottles hold about two standard glasses and are best shared.

So if you like honey and apple cider give this one a go, again my understanding is a limited release so hurry.

Cider tasting No#1

Apple Guava

Well okay Ive decided to do some productive blogging and what better way to attempt that than with drinking. Now Im no expert but I do not mind a drop of Cider, Beer and the odd tipple of Tequila and I like to try different drops to see if I can find one I really like so why not let others know what I think and feel free to add comments on what you think.

Well the first drop Id like to comment on is a cider by Cheeky Rascal and a limited edition drop. This is the first time I have tried a cider from Rebello Wines and definitely will not be the last.

The Apple Guava had a nice touch of guava, not to overpowering and would be ideal on a warm day with a few ice cubes, definitely a refresher after a hard day in the office. The apple was quite tangy as the label says they use fresh apples and this can be easily tasted, in the slightly tart drop. At 8% alcohol contact a nice buzz was acquired.

Definitely in my view a nice cider for a refreshing change. :)
